PROFILE
Gail Goldin's bold and brilliant MODERN MYTHS jewelry collection is designed around ancient lucky treasures and talismans from all over the world. "Power objects" such as Egyptian Scarabs, Chinese Jade Prayer Stones, Ethiopian Medicine Man Carvings and African Bone Masks are dramatically combined with contemporary semi-precious stones and bezel set in sterling silver. The pieces are individually handcrafted in her Studio City, California workshop and are truly engaging, wearable objects d'art for the sophisticated buyer wanting a unique and exclusive look. Gail Goldin's designs are made to be worn and enjoyed forever.
Gail Goldin has always been an artist. Since childhood, she has explored various art mediums such as drawing, painting, batik, photography, pottery and sculpture. After receiving her B.S. in Art Education in 1975 at Wayne State University, Detroit Michigan, and while pursuin her M.A. in Metalsmithing, she created a series of free-form hammered sculptures in various metals. For many years she taught jewelry, sculpture and pottery to children and adults in a Mt. Clemens, Michigan public school before moving to Southern California in 1981. There she went to work as Assistant to the President of Nova Stylings, the largest fine jewelry manufacturing company in Los Angeles, where she learned the business aspectes of manufacturing fine jewelry.
A visit to an old mining town in Colorado, populated by successful crafts people selling their works to tourists introduced Gail to the possibility of building a career doing what she loved to do. In 1984 Gail opened her first studio at Alexander Galleries in Studio City where she traded her talent teachi ng jewelry classes for studio space.
Gail's first collection captured and scaled down the free forms of the metal sculptures done earlier in her career, transforming them into seductive silver wearable objects d'art. It was extremely successful, but she was drawn more and more toward the intrigue and mystery of ancient "power objects" and meaningful "fetishes". Her excitement at the discovery of these treasures is reflected in the primitive strength and elegance of her new designs that evolved into the MODERN MYTHS jewelry collection that has received rave reviews.
Gail Goldin has received numerous awards and national acclaim with the MODERN MYTHS collection, among them an invitation by the White House to design and donate an original Christmas ornament for the White House Christmas tree in 1995. Her collection can be found in museum shops, craft galleries, fine jewelry stores and high-fashion boutiques throughout the United States. Hollywood celebrities such as Ms. Patti LaBelle,Connie Stevens, David Hasselhoff, Diahann Carroll, Randy Crawford, Kim Carnes, Shari Belafonte, Judd Hirsch, Jane Carr, Joey Lawrence, Stephanie Powers, Jo Marie Payton (Mother on 'Family Matters') Liz Sheridan (TV mother of Jerry Seinfeld), Jolie Fisher and Michele Mais have all acquired pieces for their personal wardrobes.
